The industry needed to recruit a small biotechnology company to be the face of failure for producing biologics in the egg whites in chickens. A company called Viragen fit that bill. They were a small company trying to advance what will eventually be something very valuable to the biotechnology industry, a natural interferon. They also would put a time stamp on the project as of late 2000, when work was really going on at least a decade prior to that. And the last and most important thing is that Viragen would be the public face of failure to this project. Mission Accomplished.
