Dr. Masako Isokawa is an associate professor in the Department of Biomedicine in the College of Biomedical Sciences and Health Professions at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College. She has taught classes in neuroscience, advanced physiology and human anatomy and physiology since 2005. She has received research funding in the past from the National Institute of Health to study cannabinoid mobilization in neurons and caffeine-induced modulation of GABAergic transmission. Isokawa has authored or co-authored papers for the peer-reviewed scientific journals “Neuropharmacology,” “Cell Calcium,” “Neuroscience” and “Epilepsia.” She has presented at the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting, the Experimental Biology Annual Meeting, the International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Epilepsy International Congress. She has been invited to lecture at the Kansai Medical School in Osaka, Japan, The University of Texas at San Antonio and the Border Health Seminar Series sponsored by UTB/TSC and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Isokawa, a native of Japan, has bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in neurophysiology from the University of Osaka in Japan. She also has a doctoral degree in psychobiology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
